Why Space-Themed Cakes Will Always Be In Fashion
Of all the themes you can ask a baker for, a cake with a space theme is one that is not only very familiar, but will never go out of fashion.
Ever since people first looked up at the sky in prehistory, questions about what is up there have fascinated us. Now that space exploration, be it by manned missions or space probes, is a reality, there is lots to get excited about.
This year has been no exception. It was a year when a new record was set for the oldest man in space, the 90-year-old in question being perhaps the most appropriate person for the title, actor William Shatner - best known for his role as Star Trek’s Captain Kirk.
If the USS Enterprise isn’t what you fancy on your cake, you can also consider the space probes exploring the solar system. These include the Perseverance Rover on Mars which, as well as searching the soil for signs of primitive Martian life, took a helicopter called Ingenuity to the Red Planet. The small chopper carried out the first powered flight on the planet.
NASA is even planning to send two probes to Venus in the DAVINCI project, to explore the planet and discover whether it was ever capable of supporting life.
Of course, a Mars or Venus theme would be exciting, but perhaps you could be even more adventurous and go for Saturn, with rings made of icing sticking out sideways!
As well as real-life space exploration, there’s always plenty of popular culture to keep people going. With a remake of Dune showing at cinemas and a new series of Doctor Who on the way, there are plenty of fantasy worlds and scary creatures out there to fire the imagination.
Since space is so big and mysterious, with so much out there lying undiscovered, it is a wonderful place to stretch the imagination. That means there are almost infinite opportunities to be creative. When it comes to cakes, there is no final frontier!
